Client Launch // Johnson City Legal
Tri-Cities AI Lab recently built and launched the new website for Spurrell, Studer & Matney Law Group in Johnson City, Tennessee.
This was not a template swap. It was not a coat of paint on top of the old site. We replaced their previous Wix website with a custom Flask application built around how a Johnson City law firm actually needs its website to work.
The site has dedicated practice area pages, a results section, a custom Legal Insights CMS, stronger calls to action, local SEO structure, mobile optimized layouts, and a better case evaluation flow.
In plain English: the website now does more of the job.
Built With AI Assistance, But Not AI Autopilot
The site was developed using agentic coding workflows on a heavily customized OpenClaw platform. We added specific guardrails, project workflows, review steps, and development patterns so the build stayed controlled instead of turning into a random pile of AI generated code.
I directed the build through Tri-Cities AI Lab, with human review across the content, code, design, page structure, and launch process. You can also find more of my work at dustinlifford.com.
AI helped move faster. It did not make the final calls.
That matters. A law firm website cannot just look nice. The words have to make sense. The structure has to support search. The calls to action have to work. The mobile layout has to hold up. The content needs to be reviewed by a human who understands what the site is supposed to do.
The Goal: A Website That Works for the Client
A business website should not become another thing the client has to constantly worry about.
For Spurrell, Studer & Matney, the goal was to build a site that could support the firm instead of getting in the way. The site needed to explain what they do, show credibility, guide visitors to the right information, and make it easy to request a case evaluation.
It also needed to be easy to maintain. Not easy in the fake sales pitch way. Actually easy. The kind of easy where future updates can be made through a controlled workflow, including prompt assisted changes when needed, without digging through a maze of page builder settings.
Why Move Away From Wix?
Wix can be fine for a simple starter site. There is nothing wrong with that when the need is basic.
But law firms usually outgrow basic pretty quickly.
Once you need cleaner technical SEO, custom page structure, better control over performance, more flexible content systems, stronger analytics, and a site that can grow with the business, a closed website builder can start to feel tight.
The new site gives the firm more control. Instead of forcing the website into the limits of a drag and drop platform, we built the platform around the firm.
What Changed
The new johnsoncitylegal.com is structured around the pages and actions that matter most.
- Separate pages for key practice areas.
- A dedicated results page for verdicts, settlements, notable cases, and firm experience.
- A custom Legal Insights section for articles and legal updates.
- A stronger contact form that helps route inquiries by matter type.
- Clear case evaluation calls to action across the site.
- Mobile optimized layouts for visitors who need help quickly.
- Local SEO structure for Johnson City and the broader Tri-Cities region.
- Analytics and key event tracking for real performance measurement.
Practice Area Pages With a Purpose
The old approach of putting every service on one general page does not give visitors much help. It also gives search engines less structure to work with.
The new site includes dedicated pages for the firm’s main practice areas, including Personal Injury, DUI Defense, Criminal Defense, Family Law, and Civil Litigation.
That helps visitors get to the right information faster. Someone looking for a DUI attorney does not need to sort through a generic services page. Someone dealing with a custody issue can go straight to the family law page. Someone injured in an accident can find the personal injury page and take the next step.
Search also benefits from that structure. Each page can focus on a specific legal service, a specific user need, and the local Johnson City and Tri-Cities market the firm serves.
A Results Page That Builds Trust
We also added a dedicated Results page.
For a law firm, credibility matters. Visitors want to know if the attorneys have handled serious cases before. The results page gives the firm a clean place to show verdicts, settlements, notable cases, press coverage, and courtroom experience without cramming everything onto the homepage.
The homepage should make a strong first impression. The results page can carry more of the proof.
Legal Insights: A Custom CMS for Firm Content
The site includes a custom CMS for the firm’s Legal Insights section.
This gives the firm a place to publish articles, legal updates, answers to common questions, and search focused content without relying on a heavy third party blogging system.
For a law firm, this is useful for two reasons. First, it helps real people understand the legal issues they are searching for. Second, it gives the site room to build local topical authority over time for Johnson City, Washington County, and the broader Tri-Cities region.
A Better Case Evaluation Flow
The contact page now does more than collect a name, phone number, and message.
The form includes options for the type of legal matter, which helps the firm better understand where an inquiry should go. Personal injury, DUI defense, criminal defense, family law, civil litigation, and other matters are not all the same kind of lead.
That is a small detail that can make the website more useful inside the business. The site is not just sitting there looking nice. It is helping with intake.
Mobile First Because That Is Where People Are
Legal searches often happen during stressful moments. People may be on their phone after an arrest, an accident, a family issue, a court notice, or a problem that needs an answer quickly.
The new site keeps calls to action close on mobile. Visitors can call, request a case evaluation, move between practice areas, and find key information without fighting the layout.
Good mobile design is not just about making the desktop site smaller. It is about making the next step obvious.
The Tech Stack, Without the Buzzword Fog
The stack was chosen for control, speed, measurement, and maintainability. Not because the words sound good in a launch post.
Flask
Flask powers the custom web application. It keeps the site lightweight, flexible, and easier to shape around the firm’s actual needs.
Custom Legal Insights CMS
The firm can publish legal content without dragging in a bloated content system or depending on a page builder for every update.
Nginx
Nginx handles the production web server layer and helps serve the application efficiently.
Bunny CDN
Bunny CDN helps deliver static assets faster, which matters for both user experience and technical performance.
Google Analytics
Analytics is set up to measure more than pageviews. Key events such as form submissions and click to call actions help show whether the site is producing useful activity.
Google Tag Manager
Tag Manager makes it easier to manage tracking and future marketing tags without hardcoding every small change into the application.
Open Graph Metadata
Open Graph helps control how pages look when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, text messages, and other platforms.
Google Fonts
Typography supports the professional look of the site and improves readability across desktop and mobile.
Client Feedback Made the Site Better
This project also worked because the client stayed involved.
Spurrell, Studer & Matney gave consistent feedback throughout the build. That matters more than people think. A good website project should not be a mystery box where the developer disappears and returns with something the client has to pretend to like.
The back and forth helped shape the final design, messaging, content structure, and page priorities. It was a pleasure to build with them.
The Real Point
The new site is not just prettier than the old one. It is more useful.
It gives visitors a clearer path. It gives the firm better control. It gives search engines a cleaner structure. It gives the business a website that can keep improving without becoming another constant headache.
That is the kind of project Tri-Cities AI Lab is built for.
Practical AI assisted development. Human review. Local business needs. No magic tricks. Just a website built to do its job.
